The city of San Luis is located on the Colorado River, which is also a geographical boundary between the Mexican states of Sonora and Baja California.

San Luis is also a Sonoran border town, situated in the Sonoran municipality (a political division similar to a county in the U.S.) of San Luis south of the border town of San Luis, Arizona, which is 23 miles south of the city of Yuma and US interstate 8.

With a population of nearly 200,000 residents, San Luis is the fourth-largest city in the state of Sonora.

The city used to be a stopover for steamships that traveled on the Colorado River from the Gulf of California, but due to the heavy demand on Colorado River water, the river in San Luis is usually just a dry river bed.

The San Luis Rio Colorado region is mainly based on agriculture, but this border city is also a favorite of tourists who visit its doctors and dentists. Read more about dentistry in San Luis Rio Colorado.
